A Fragment of Being

A Fragment of Being begins with the body, color, silence, and memory—an experience lived within us before it becomes conscious remembrance. The faceless figures embody fragments of a shared human experience. In Merleau-Ponty’s phenomenological perspective, the body is the primary site of perception, where time, touch, and memory converge. Color becomes a language of life, wound, memory, and light, while white opens a quiet space for the possibility of renewal. The works of Elham Mohammadinejad, bringing together illustration, video, and maternal lullabies, create an intermedia space for memory and healing. Colorful figures, women’s presence, and lullabies evoke fragments of human experience, while the lullaby becomes a first sonic shelter—a return to the inner home. Image, sound, body, and memory move gently from wound toward repair, from silence toward song, and from darkness toward color: an invitation to discover a new light within the fragments of being.

Artist-run Galleries - Diferentiating Three Models in Current Contemporary Art Markets

ABSTRACT In the past five years the contemporary art market in a Western European and US context has progressed in its economic growth, professionalizing certain art world roles and encouraging the rise of young international galleries and private museums in the US. This article focuses on a particular local establishment of artist-run galleries in New York at the intersection of art production and commercial/ institutional recognition. Artists founded artrun galleries that show strategies to exhibit and sell works of art in a peer-to-peer scenario, breaking with some established safeguarding protocols of emerging and established White Cube galleries. The article examines these strategies and demonstrates a reflective symbiosis between artist-run galleries and commercial and institutional recognition in the contemporary art market.
